Integrated Management of Crop Diseases
Ashish Tripathi
Plant diseases cause enormous economic losses, both quantitatively and qualitatively. The disease scenario in the various agro climatic zones of India differs with variations of soil and climatic conditions. In the present agriculture, farmers rely heavily on the use of synthetic pesticides, which has aggravated many disease problems. The complete destruction of pathogen under field condition is not only impossible but also economically impractical. Hence the idea revolves around the tactical management of pathogens so as to keep the damage or loss below the economic threshold level. Integrated disease management (IDM) aims at prevention or reduction in the incidence or severity of the disease incited by the pathogen and involves use of all the possible management strategies with least cost and less damage to the environment and given sustainable crop production. Integrated management of crop diseases, has been prepared by accumulating the chapters from authors having experiences in working with the respective crops. The book comprised of the importance of disease, etiology of the pathogen, epidemiology and integrated disease management of rice, pulses, soybean, rapeseed–mustard, vegetables, mango, little millet, spice crops, medicinal and aromatic plants, management post harvest diseases and plant parasitic nematode. This book would be useful for the undergraduate and post graduate students, teachers and scientists of the Universities dealing the crop disease management and extension workers engaged in designing and implementation of IDM programme to the farmers.  ..more
