The present anthology of critical essays on English poets in India, old and new, is an attempt to present critical essays from the Pre-Independence poets, like Noble laureate Rabindranath Tagore and Toru Dutt –the prodigy poet who died young; via Post-Independence poets like Ruskin Bond, Kamala Das, Shiv K. Kumar and O.P. Bhatnagar to contemporary poets who came to the scene in the last quarter of the Twentieth Century and thereafter. Among this category the poets included are IK Sharma, RK Singh, Maha Nand Sharma, Niranjan Mohanty, Pasupati Jha, and R. C. Shukla besides the poets who deserve critical appraisal like Mahendra Bhatnagar, Nar Deo Sharma, KB Rai and Suman Sachar.
