This publication focuses on the reading of important twentieth century texts in drama, poetry, fiction and criticism. Forester’s A Passage to India, Northrop Frye’s Anatomy of Criticism and Harold Bloom’s The Anxiety of Influence are the texts chosen for reading. In India today we are experiencing a broadening of horizons. The reading and interpretation of literature in the English language has made an important contribution to the way we think and feel about the modern world. Alongwith the textual consciousness the essays transmit some of the joy and freedom of reading. A wide awareness of the modes of thought and imagination and the questions that we put about the way these modes find shape in language is a part of the intellectual adventure in our time.
